New Employee Information

New Employee Initial Enrollment
As a new full-time employee of ECISD you are eligible for employee benefits the first day of hire. Note however that each employee must decide if he/she wishes to start coverage retroactively to the 1st of the month (this would result in a full deduction for that month) or to start coverage the 1st day of the following month.  Initial enrollment is a period of 30 days (1 month) starting with your hire date.

Open Enrollment Period
Our office will contact you by phone or email with instructions on how to enroll online and to review required documentation for initial enrollment.  Be advised that if you do not enroll during this initial enrollment window and before the period of coverage begins, you will not be able to do so again until open enrollment the next plan year or until you experience a qualifying event allowing a change in status. A qualifying event is defined by the IRS as a change in your circumstances that allows you to make changes to your health insurance outside the open enrollment period.

Open enrollment is usually a 2 or 3 week period held each year during the month of October when all employees can modify or add to their insurance benefits. However, due to our current COVID environment, ECISD has divided the open enrollment window for the 2020-21 school year.  A "mini" enrollment window is scheduled for October 2020 which will allow employees to modify or add themselves to our medical, dental, and flexible spending account (FSA) plans.

A second open enrollment opportunity is scheduled to occur in February 2021 for the following products: Vision, Disability, Accident, Cancer, Hospital Indemnity, Basic Group Life/AD&D, Voluntary Group Term Life/AD&D, Gap, and Universal Life.
