Edinburg CISD announces 2020 science fair winners

EDINBURG – Hundreds of students recently competed in the annual science fair at the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District.

Approximately 300 students received trophies for their science projects during the awards ceremonies that were held at the Edinburg Activity Center for the middle school competitors and at Canterbury Elementary School for the elementary school participants.

“It’s very rewarding to see all of our students participating in the chemistry demonstrations,” said ECISD Elementary Science Specialist Mirella Garza. “This is definitely a learning experience for all of our students here at Edinburg CISD.”

The Science Department organized the competition, which was comprised of 26 science categories for elementary school students and 15 science categories for middle school students.

Prior to the each of the awards presentations, students and their parents were able to participate in some interactive science demonstrations, featuring chemistry, engineering and physics.

“The kids really enjoy making the slime and they get to take a little bag home with them,” said ECISD Secondary Science Specialist Vanessa Arrona-Ramos. “We also have the physics demonstration with the Advanced Placement (AP) physics students and the chemistry demos with the AP chemistry kids.”
