Edinburg Rotary honors ECISD valedictorians, salutatorians

EDINBURG – The Edinburg Rotary Club recently honored the valedictorians and the salutatorians from all four high schools from the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District.

“The valedictorians and the salutatorians have worked hard their entire school career, not just the last couple of weeks or months, but for an entire 12 years to get to this point and we’re just really proud of what they have accomplished,” said Edinburg Rotary Club President Tim Smith via a special video message.

The students’ recognition is part of the Edinburg Rotary’s Student of the Month Program, which is normally held during the organization’s luncheon meeting.

“I wish we could be there to shake their hands and give them a high five, applaud for them and everything else. And we’re doing that at home, like everybody else is from a distance,” Smith said.

The Edinburg Rotary recognized the following students:

  • Edinburg High School valedictorian Sarisha Mendoza
  • Edinburg High School salutatorian Leonel Ramirez III
  • Edinburg North High School valedictorian Esmeralda Lopez
  • Edinburg North High School salutatorian Kaitlyn Ybáñez
  • Economedes High School valedictorian Yamilex Cantu
  • Economedes High School salutatorian Belinda Cantu
  • Vela High School valedictorian Adam Castaneda
  • Vela High School salutatorian Jessie Dominguez

“We love the Student of the Month Program because it’s a great partnership between the Edinburg Rotary Club and Edinburg CISD,” Smith said. “It gives us a chance to recognize special students throughout the District in all different disciplines and that’s what makes it really special.”
