We are proud to celebrate two outstanding individuals whose achievements continue to uplift and inspire our community: Luis Alamia, Jr. – Inducted into the Rio Grande Valley Hall of Fame, Class of 2010, Luis Jr. has left a lasting mark on athletics and mentorship throughout the region. Luis G. Alamia – Carrying forward his family’s legacy, Luis G. was recently honored as an Inductee into the UTRGV Athletics Hall of Fame, Class of 2024. His dedication, sportsmanship, and leadership are a shining example to future generations. In recognition of their remarkable contributions: Edinburg CISD proudly presented a Proclamation celebrating the legacy and impact of both Luis Alamia, Jr., and Luis G. Alamia on education and youth athletics. The City of Edinburg also issued an official Proclamation, honoring their achievements and commending their commitment to excellence and community pride. This is more than a celebration of athletic accomplishment—it’s a tribute to a family legacy rooted in discipline, heart, and an enduring love for the Rio Grande Valley.

The ECISD Bilingual/ESL Department proudly recognizes an exceptional student making waves with her linguistic talents, Sofia Bautista Galaviz! 🎉 Sofia recently represented our district with pride and determination at the Torneo de Ortografía (Spanish Spelling Bee), showcasing not only her mastery of the Spanish language and dedication to academic excellence. Her achievement is a testament to the strength of our bilingual programs and our students' amazing potential. ¡Felicidades, Sofia! You are an inspiration to your peers and our entire ECISD family!

We’re proud to celebrate the incredible accomplishments of our After-School Programs' Competitive Chess Teams across the district! Elementary Level Our young strategists made their mark as TCA State Qualifiers and SuperNationals Qualifiers, showing that big minds come in small packages! Their dedication and tactical thinking pave the way for a bright future in competitive chess. Middle School Level These rising stars also qualified for the Texas Chess Association (TCA) State Tournament, demonstrating focus, skill, and true sportsmanship on and off the board. Robert Vela High School (RVHS) The RVHS chess team continues to raise the bar with State Competitors and National Qualifiers, proudly representing ECISD on some of the biggest stages in scholastic chess. This is more than just a game; it’s about critical thinking, perseverance, and building confidence. Congratulations to all of our student competitors, coaches, and families who support these champions in their journey!

This award represents the highest level of musical excellence in Texas. It recognizes superior ratings in concert performance and sight-reading evaluation, a true testament to talent, discipline, and dedication. It is for student musicians and directors. Whether it's a stirring symphony, a powerful choral piece, or a dynamic band performance, our students continue to rise to the occasion and bring pride to ECISD through their passion for the performing arts. We’re rolling out the red carpet for our incredibly talented theatre students from Edinburg High School (EHS), Edinburg North High School (ENHS), Johnny G. Economedes High School (JEHS), and Robert Vela High School (RVHS) — all of whom have earned 2025 Palm Award nominations and made a mark at UIL One Act Play competitions! Palm Award Nominees Our theatre departments continue to shine in the spotlight, earning multiple nominations at the prestigious Palm Awards, celebrating the best in high school musical theatre across the Rio Grande Valley. From acting and directing to tech and design, ECISD students are recognized for their brilliance on stage and behind the scenes. UIL One Act Play These same campuses also delivered powerful performances in the UIL One Act Play competitions, impressing judges with their stage presence, storytelling, and professionalism. Each production was a masterclass in creativity, collaboration, and emotional depth. A massive round of applause for our student performers, directors, and theatre teams for their passion, talent, and commitment to the arts. Congratulations to our ECISD Performing Arts Programs! We’re proud to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of our talented students and dedicated staff at the recent TCGC State and WGI World Championships! Edinburg High School Varsity Guard earned 3rd Place at State, making history as back-to-back medalists! Represented by Jaylene Jasso, Brittany Pina, Anasofia Aruaza, Jocelyn Zamora, and Abigail Larraga; led by Director Melaney Perez and staff Marilee Garcia, Evelin Hernandez, Ashley Ledezma, and Vivian Pena. Edinburg North Winter Guard placed 8th, represented by Captains Joycelin Gutierrez and Laila Molina, with Director Gaby Carrera and staff Sophia Dempsey, Kat de la Torre, and Danna Serna. 🥁 Indoor Percussion groups performed impressively in their respective classes at the TCGC Percussion State Championships: Robert Vela HS Indoor Percussion placed 7th in their class, represented by Ramiro Garza, Matthew Martinez, Lucas Saenz, Alexandra Sauceda, Josiah Sepulveda, and Elan Montemayor. Director: Peter Garza. Edinburg North Indoor Percussion placed 8th in their class, represented by Arturo Rodriguez, Rosie Rodriguez, Elizabeth De Leon, and Matthew Gonzalez. Director: Phil Johnson; staff: Andrea Davila, Thor Vela, Daniel Perez, Mirza Carvajal, Mia Jolie. Winds Groups from Edinburg High School, Robert Vela High School, and Edinburg North High School also advanced: ENHS Winds: Bronze Medal in their class, led by Yulisa Rodriguez, Evan Zamora, Valeria Nava, and Oliver Dempsey. Staff: Mac Guajardo, Mark De Leon. RVHS Winds: State Champions again! Drum Majors: Henry Elizondo, Addison Maldonado, Valentin Cantu. Staff: Cassandra Sanchez, Peter Garza, Sebastian Tijerina, Ivan Costilla. EHS Winds: 3rd State Championship, led by Citlali Alarcon, Lauren Soto, Reina Verdugo. 🌍 At WGI World Championships, both EHS and RVHS Winds brought home the ultimate honor — World Champions in their class! RVHS Winds: 2025 World Open Class Champions, finishing 1st in Finals! EHS Winds: Swept 1st in Prelims, Semis, and Finals — earning the 2nd highest class score in WGI history! 👏 Our students fundraised for over 10 months and gave countless hours of rehearsal, and their dedication brought national and world titles home to Edinburg!
