Edinburg CISD Mourns The Passing of Mr. Eduardo Gonzalez

On Behalf of the ECISD Board of Trustees, Superintendent Dr. Mario Salinas and our ECISD family, we offer our deepest condolences to Edinburg CISD board member Mrs. Carmen Gonzalez for the loss of her beloved husband Eduardo Gonzalez. Mr. Gonzalez was also a cherished member of our educational community. He was a life-long educator with a distinguished career that spanned over three decades. He began his career as an intermediate school teacher and went on to become a beloved elementary school principal in our Edinburg CISD district.

Mr. Gonzalez’ passion for education and unwavering commitment to his students led him to serve as Superintendent of La Villa ISD, where he continued to inspire and guide educators to put their students' joy for learning and curiosity at the forefront of their teaching. He believed that teachers should go beyond teaching math, reading and writing, and place an emphasis on helping students develop a love for learning and become naturally curious about learning new things. He also believed that teachers should work on developing a positive image of each student. "Everybody has a right to be somebody, you have to be a 110 percent optimist in this business," he would say.

Mr. Gonzalez’ remarkable contributions to the field of education and his unwavering commitment to his students will forever be remembered by the countless lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and colleagues throughout the Rio Grande Valley and educational community.

Services for Mr. Eduardo Gonzalez will be held on May 10th, with a viewing at Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg from 5pm to 7pm, followed by a Rosary starting at 7pm.

A Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elsa on May 11th at 1pm, followed by burial at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Weslaco (on FM 88) at 2pm.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to Mrs. Carmen Gonzalez and her family during this difficult time.
