Physical Education & Health

Physical Education and Health Coordinator Statement

Our goal in Physical education is for students to make healthy choices and feel successful when participating in a variety of activities. We aim to develop and improve students' personal fitness and motor skills by providing developmentally appropriate activities through purposeful, innovative and enjoyable instruction. By incorporating challenging yet achievable tasks, the students will attain positive attitudes about physical activity and movement.

State Law requires 135 minutes of physical activity for elementary students, 4 semesters of physical education for middle school students, and 1 year of physical education for high school students.

Our school district participates in the Let's Move Active Schools program that strives to have children physically active for 60 minutes a day. This year, we will be participating in the Fuel Up To Play 60 program that complements our existing physical activity and coordinated school programs.

Students in grades 3rd-12th are required to take the Fitnessgram exam, the state mandated physical fitness exam. The Fitnessgram exam components consist of the body mass index, aerobic capacity, abdominal strength and endurance, upper body strength and endurance, trunk extensor strength and flexibility.

Edinburg C.I.S.D is looking forward to providing your child with an exciting and rewarding physical education program. The physical education classes will prove to be an integral part in your child's physical and social development. We are committed to giving students the best instruction possible and making physical education and enjoyable experience.
