2022-2023 

 

Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District (ECISD) will continue to provide instructional support and operational services to all staff, students, and parents. To best provide a safe school environment for everyone, ECISD has developed a “SAFE RETURN TO IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION and CONTINUITY of SERVICES PLAN” to be implemented for the 2022-2023 school year, pending any Texas Education Agency updates.

 

ECISD will continue to communicate and train all faculty, staff, and student body on the work safe plan, instructional safe plan, disinfecting, and safe practices.

TEACHING AND LEARNING PLAN

Subject to change based on state guidance

Traditional

Face-to-Face Schooling

All students will participate in campus instruction 100% of the time following regular

bell schedules designated for elementary, middle school, high school, and alternative schools.

Masks are optional on district property effective on March 9, 2022

Duration will be for the 2022-2023 school year, pending any Texas Education Agency updates.

ECISD Pandemic Response Team

An ECISD pandemic response team has been created to assist and communicate safety protocols. The team members are:

Building Entrances

Scheduled time for staff to enter will be determined by the principal.

Scheduled time for students and parents to enter will be determined by the principal.

All doors to enter the building will be opened for staff and students. (Hallways, gyms, cafeteria, music halls, etc.)

Building Exits

All doors to exit the school building will be determined by the campus  principal. (Hallways, gyms, cafeteria, music halls, etc.)

Staff Health Screenings

While not required, all staff should do a daily self-check before coming in to work or school.

Classroom Design

Teacher and student desks are spaced to encourage social distancing  whenever possible

Use of the Inside Hallways

Principal will designate hallway traffic flow direction (example: stay to your right method), may use directional stickers or signs if available

Use of the Outside Walkways

Students and staff will be asked to use the outside walkways as much as possible and during passing periods.

Cafeteria

·         Students are encouraged to practice social distancing in the café whenever possible.

·         Parents are not allowed to deliver food to child, unless there is a documented medical accommodation

       

 

 

 

 

 

Restrooms

·         Max capacity allowed in the student restrooms based on number of urinals and stalls.

·         Staff restrooms are available for staff only

Nurses Office

·         Shall remain as the primary space for students and staff to receive first aid, medications, and medical attention

·        Students who need medications shall continue with their set schedule to visit the nurses’ office

Isolation Areas

An area has been designated as the isolation place for students who are COVID symptomatic and waiting to be taken home.

 

Campus Visitors

School will accept campus visitors, allowing a limited number of people in the front lobby.

School Business/ Meetings

In-person meetings are allowed, and social distancing is encouraged whenever possible.  Communication with staff in the building will be conducted via phone, email, virtual meeting, memos, etc.

PROCEDURES PRIOR TO COMING TO SCHOOL

All students and school employees must self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms before entering the school or coming to work.

If you experience any of the symptoms listed below, do not come to school.

·      Fever

·      Shortness of breath

·      Difficulty breathing

·      Loss of taste or smell

·      Chills

·      Muscle or body aches

·      Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea

·      Fatigue

·      Headache

·      Congestion or runny nose

·      Cough

·      Sore throat

If Employees experience any of the above symptoms, they must contact their immediate supervisor/campus administrator, do not report to work, and submit their absence on Smart Find Express.

If Students experience any of the above symptoms, they should NOT report to campus. Students should stay HOME and contact their school for further assistance with remote conferencing.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING MASKS:

·         Staff and Students are not required to wear a mask effective 03/09/2022

·         Schools will provide a mask on request.

·         Masks will be utilized for emergency purposes or when a student or staff is exhibiting symptoms.

 

         

 

 

PROCEDURES ARRIVING TO SCHOOL

Gates into the School Property

7:00 a.m. School gates will be opened for school employees

Staff Parking

Designated Staff Parking; first come, first park

Student Parking

Designated Student Parking (high school) first come, first park

 

Student Arrival Time

Students drop off, Students driving to school, Bus drop off should arrive 30 minutes before the school start time.

* Accommodations will be made for students that arrive earlier.

 

Everyone

Entering the Building

·  Hand sanitizer is available at all entrances.

·  Wearing a face mask is optional

·  May use all doors designated by campus principal

·   Follow the hallway traffic flow direction (stay to your right)

·  Report directly to their workstation and/or classroom, avoid congregating

 

Temperature Checks

·   Unless the student / staff/ visitor indicates they are symptomatic, a temperature is not required to enter school.

 

 

Illness on campus

·  Students / staff with symptoms will go to the clinic isolation area if available and nurse will be           notified.

·  Final decision regarding COVID-19 protocol will be determined by the campus School Nurse, with the guidance of ECISD Director of Health Services.


PROCEDURES FOR LEAVING SCHOOL

Gates into the

School Property

All gates will be opened for end of the day dismissals

Exiting the Building during the school day

All Staff and Students:

·  May exit the building using exits designated by the campus principal.

·  Everyone is encouraged to use outside sidewalks if applicable, before, during, and after school

 

 

 

After school waiting areas

·        Students are encouraged to leave campus immediately after being released

·        Students will report to the bus lane to board the bus, or designated waiting area as determined by the campus principal.

·        Students will report directly to parent pick up lane to get picked up

·        Parents must pick up student within 20 minutes of dismissal

·        If students need to wait for pickup, they must wait in the area designated by principal

SAFETY FIRST: Bus Procedures

 

Bus Transportation

·        Bus drivers will have face masks available for students upon request.

·        Face masks are optional for all riders.

·        All students are provided hand sanitizer upon entering the bus.

·        All students must sit in assigned seats.

·        Drivers must disinfect the bus between each route.

·        At the end of the day, crews will deep clean all buses.

·        Students may not eat or drink anything on the bus.

·        All buses for tutorials, athletics, fine arts, the Career Center, etc. must practice the above safety and mitigation procedures.

Teacher Responsibilities

·  Refrain from allowing students to leave your classroom for any reason other than to the restroom (1-2 at a time)

·   Communicate with school nurse of any personal and/or student health concerns

·  Teachers are encouraged to wipe down areas/surfaces in the classroom between class periods.

·  If Teachers identify students with COVID symptoms in their classroom; the teacher will phone the nurse from the classroom to alert them to act quickly on noted student with symptoms.

 

 

 

Classroom, Gyms, & Fine Arts Classroom Set up

·  During instructional time, classroom doors will remain closed

·  When classroom is not in use, classroom doors will be closed

·  During the 2022-2023 school year, students will dress out for physical education (PE) class.

·  All classrooms will be equipped with a land line phone and voicemail

·   Assigned seating will be established for every class

·  Desks, seats, and other common areas in the classroom will be wiped down as often as possible.

·  Students will be encouraged to social distance whenever possible

 

Student Expectations

·  Follow Teacher’s assigned seating

·  No sharing of school supplies and materials

 

Disinfecting Classrooms

·  Custodians will disinfect at the end of the instructional day

·  Teachers will wipe down areas/surfaces in the classroom between class periods

Classroom Celebrations (Elementary)

·  Birthday parties will be allowed in the classroom (on a day approved by the teacher / principal)

·  Special holiday celebrations will be teacher-led and must have prior approval from principal.


 

 

 

Creating a safe, clean, and effective environment for students and staff is a top priority.

 

Cleaning and Disinfection of Facilities:

Classrooms, restrooms, hallways, offices, and other common areas will be continuously deep cleaned and disinfected daily, throughout the instructional day, and in the evenings.

 

Sanitation stations have been installed throughout the building such as hallways, entryways, library, etc.

ECISD school custodians will thoroughly clean and disinfect daily to adhere to all necessary safety precautions. ECISD schools     will continue to have daily protocols for cleaning and disinfecting.

 

Restroom use during the school day:

Students: Maximum capacity will be posted on the door of the restroom door/entry. If restroom capacity has been reached, students may have to wait outside the restroom, until they may enter.

 

Staff: Restrooms designated for staff throughout  the school building will have toilet seat covers and dispensers placed in designated adult restrooms

 

Disinfecting: Staff and student restrooms will be disinfected several times per day (after the lunch periods and after school) by the custodians.

Drinking Water Fountains:

Cafeteria:

·     Touchless water fountains have been installed for staff and student use

·     Staff and students are encouraged to bring their own water bottles from home

·     Students will eat in the cafeteria or other areas designated by the principal

·     If the maximum capacity is reached in the cafeteria, students will be asked to eat in other designated areas


 

 

Daily Disinfecting Schedule

All Staff/Employees are encouraged to help mitigate the spread of infection by taking a pro-active approach in cleaning and sanitizing workspaces and areas. This will help create a safe, clean, and effective environment for students and staff.

 

Custodian Responsibilities

·         Training for custodians will be provided by ECISD Maintenance and Operations department for proper disinfecting.

·         Cafeteria and Custodial staff will work jointly as a team to clean and disinfect.

·        Custodians will replenish classroom disinfectant and hand sanitizers as needed.

·        Every room will be disinfected daily. (Custodians, Teachers, and staff)

·        Teachers and Staff will disinfect their work areas/workstations throughout the day to help reduce the spread of infection.

Procedures for disinfecting confirmed COVID -19 cases is as follows:

SAFETY FIRST: Staff and Students

Employee responsibilities and expectations at work:

·        Wash your hands with soap and water regularly throughout the day

·        If eating on campus, staff is being instructed to use areas designated by the principal and encouraged social distancing whenever possible

Classroom Teachers:

·        Teachers shall comply with the above responsibilities & expectations

·        Must report directly to their classroom

·        Will only have assigned staff members in their classroom

·        May only leave their classroom for restroom, and if needed, to get their food from teacher’s lounge

·        Whenever possible, teachers should eat in their classroom

·        If classroom is being used by a roving teacher, the teacher must leave the classroom and go to another space in the building such as, library, cafeteria,

teachers’ lounge

Student Fundraisers

All fundraisers must be approved by principal and ECISD central administration.


 

BREAKFAST & LUNCH

 

 

 

Breakfast

·        In the AM, the cafeteria can be used for “sit down” breakfast, as determined by

campus principal

·        Breakfast time is approximately 15-30 minutes before the start of the school day

·        Elementary Students will eat in 1st period class (food is packed and delivered to each classroom)

·        Students are allowed to eat in designated areas in the dining rooms.

·        Students may not share any foods or drinks in the classroom or in the hallways.

 

 

 

 

 

Lunch

Lunch will be served in the cafeteria during designated periods.

 

In the Cafeteria the following will be in place:

·        Administration, Non-Teaching Professionals, Teachers, and Paraprofessionals will be             assigned to lunch duty to help monitor students

·        Areas designated by the principal

·        Parents/visitors are not allowed to eat in the cafeteria or classroom with the student

 

Teachers are encouraged to remain on campus for lunch

·      If possible, should eat in their classroom

·      Staff will be required to bring their own containers for lunch and drinks

·      If eating in Teacher’s Lounge, social distancing is encourage whenever possible

HEALTH SERVICES & NURSE’S CLINIC

Every ECISD school has a least 1 registered nurse on campus. The role of these

individuals are critical in ensuring the health and safety of our school community.

Upon request, the Nurse will provide each Teacher with:

First aid kit for minor first aid, that includes a handheld, contactless thermometer. The items in the kit will be

replaced as needed. Campus Nurses will provide training to all faculty and staff on taking temperatures, treating minor first aid in the classroom, hygiene, and mitigation practices.

Health

Education will include:

·      Proper handwashing

·      Respiratory etiquette

·      Proper use of the face mask when worn

·      Social distancing

·      COVID-19 symptoms & when to stay at home

Education

Screening for illness at school

·    If any COVID-19 symptoms are present, student / staff should stay home.

·    Parent(s)/guardian has the option to test have their child tested for COVID at school.

·    Parent(s)/ guardian who have a child with symptoms will need to take them home

or to a doctor for the following:

·           Fever

·           Pink eye

·           Vomiting or Diarrhea

·           Severe cough

·           Other as determined by the school nurse

 

 

 

The campus nurse will address any suspected illness by removing student the classroom to a designated area  and screen the student for symptoms. The nurse will:

·     Call the parent

·     Monitor fever and/or other symptoms If parent consent available, provide COVID rapid test.

·    Provide the parent with a medical referral, if applicable

·    Report to Hidalgo County Health Authority as required.

Sports and Extracurricular Activities

 

Introduction

To facilitate safe participation in sports, extracurricular activities, and other activities with elevated risk (such as activities that involve singing, shouting, band, and exercise that could lead to increased exhalation), ECISD schools are implementing screening testing for participants who are both vaccinated and unvaccinated.

 

Covid Testing and participation

·         COVID tests will be offered one-two days prior to any extracurricular event “game day” and all staff / students participating will be screened and/or tested as recommended based on the level of transmission in the school district and county.

·         All students / staff participating in overnight events will be COVID-19 tested 1 day prior to departure.

Showers and Dressing Rooms

·         Students will be allowed in the locker room

·         Shower stalls and lockers will be available

·         Students will be encouraged to practice social distancing in the locker room(s)

 

Spectators

·         Stadium seating is allowed, and social distancing is encouraged when possible

·         Hand sanitizer will be located throughout areas such as gyms or stadiums
