Edinburg CISD celebrates double-A rating
EDINBURG, Texas – Approximately 5,000 teachers, principals, staff and administrators cheered as Edinburg CISD Superintendent Dr. René Gutiérrez announced that the district had earned a double-A rating.
“We are very excited because we are an ‘A’ honor roll school district,” Gutiérrez said recently during the district’s General Assembly at the McAllen Convention Center.
The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District received a grade of an “A” on the newest academic accountability ratings based on an A-through-F scale. Additionally, the ECISD Finance Department earned an “A” or Superior preliminary rating in financial accountability for the 2017-2018 school year.
“We are starting another school year on a good note with an “A” rating in academics and an “A” rating in finance,” Gutiérrez said.
This year’s keynote speaker was Dr. Luis F. Cruz, a public school educator for more than 20 years, who now spends his time guiding and teaching educators across the nation.
“What this district is doing is absolutely phenomenal. I don’t think they understand how great they’ve become, which is almost a good thing. Other school districts cannot replicate this, because they keep doing the same things wanting different results,” Cruz said. “My hats off to Edinburg.”
The excitement of the new school year could be felt by the many teachers, principals and staff who attended the event.
“We’re really proud,” said South Middle School teacher Erica Flores. “I have been in another district before. This is my 18th year here and this is the best district ever!”
“Coming into the school district, I have heard so many great things about it, including how wonderful the academic process is and how we provide students with the ability to go off to college and be prepared for what they need to be doing in the workforce once they leave here,” said Reyes Rodriguez, a new teacher at Lee Elementary School. “So, I am excited to be here. I have heard a lot of great things and I want to add to that.”
The Longoria Middle School choir provided the entertainment for the event, which was a tribute to some of the best songs and music from several decades.
