Gifted & Talented Program
State Goal
Students who participate in services designed for gifted & talented demonstrate skills in self-directed learning, thinking, research, and communication as evidenced by the development of innovative products and performances that reflect individuality and creativity and are advanced in relation to students of similar age, experience, or environment. High school graduates who participated in services for gifted students have produced products and performances of professional quality as a part of their program services.
District Definition
Students who are identified through a specific screening and selection process, who excel consistently, or demonstrate above average intelligence or potential in the area of general intellectual ability, are placed in the Gifted and Talented program. The district seeks to identify 5-7% of ECISD students to be served by the Gifted and Talented program.
District Goals
Serve all identified gifted and talented students in grades K-12 by providing learning experiences appropriate to their unique needs..
Develop and promote the development of students' positive self-concept.
Develop students' thinking and problem solving abilities.
Develop students' abilities to become independent learners and producers of new information.
Develop students' creative thinking abilities.
Develop students' abilities to recognize and use their potential for the benefit of themselves and society.
Provide a differentiated curriculum (depth, complexity, broad based themes and issues)
Conduct formative and summative evaluations of the Gifted and Talented Program.
Provide an opportunity for teachers to receive quality staff development that meets/or exceeds the requirements of the state plan.
