Edinburg CISD trustees voted unanimously Sept. 15th to negotiate a project management firm contract with Broaddus and Associates to oversee in totality the construction of school facilities listed in the $111,920,000 bond election projects approved by school district voters last May.

Superintendent of Schools Gilberto Garza, Jr., who brought the administrative recommendation to award the contract to Broaddus, said the contract is pending final negotiations with the firm.

The school board motion to negotiate a contract with Broaddus was made by trustee Robert Pena with a second by trustee Ciro Trevino. The motion passed with trustees Pena; Trevino; Omar Palacios; Carmen Gonzalez; Jaime Chavana; and David Torres voting for the measure. Trustee Gregorio “Greg” Garcia did not attend the special-called board meeting.

Broaddus, an Austin-based program management and consulting services firm, has spearheaded construction projects for South Texas College in McAllen, Weslaco and Rio Grande City: Texas Southmost College in Brownsville; and the Regional Academic Health Center in Harlingen.

ECISD school officials said the Broaddus Company, which has a Valley office in McAllen, is committed to providing superior quality, best value, and effective project delivery for the school district.

Rigoberto Abrego, assistant superintendent for Finance and Operations, said the Broaddus firm has an extensive record in managing complex major capital construction programs. He said Broaddus utilizes a proven project management approach combined with innovative “Best Practice” applications.
